TVA is experiencing a strain on its electric grid.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has asked its customers to reduce electricity consumption as much as possible. Voluntary reductions will help KUB and other local power providers continue to deliver reliable service during a regional increase in demand. KUB and other TVA distributors have already reduced their own power use where possible without impacting utility services.

KUB customers are asked to take the following measures:

  • Set your thermostat as low as safely and comfortably possible. Start at 68 degrees, and keep in mind that each degree lower reduces your energy use.
  • Postpone using large electrical appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, and cooking equipment. If you do need to use large appliances, use them in the middle of the day when electricity demand is lower.
  • Businesses should minimize lighting and turn off all office equipment that is not in use or necessary.
  • Eliminate all non-essential use of electricity, such as decorative indoor and outdoor lighting used for hallways, walkways, and home patios.
