Tree Trimming and Landscaping: Balancing Beauty and Reliability

Trees help make our region beautiful, but they are also a leading cause of power outages. KUB, like our customers, values how trees enhance our quality of life, and we work to balance protecting trees with providing safe, reliable utility service. KUB's Vegetation Management Program includes tree-pruning practices approved by the Arbor Day Foundation. In fact, the foundation has named KUB a Tree Line USA Utility each year since 2001 for properly caring for trees.

Our Vegetation Management Program covers more than just tree pruning. It also includes selective herbicide application, hazardous tree removal, and mowing in the utility right of way. The program also includes provisions for evaluating special status trees.

We also offer tips about how to safely landscape around pad-mounted electric transformers and how to plant the right tree in the right place to avoid future conflicts with electric lines. And KUB also promotes environmentally friendly rain barrels, which can help you take advantage of a natural water supply for outdoor water purposes and decrease your water bills.
